Ryan Castle: You’re listening to Level 10 Leaders Power Tips, and I’m your host, Ryan Castle. Today’s tip comes from Nina Schwark, founder and visionary of OpsLab. Nina’s Power Tip is on how the State of the Company presentation works. Let’s dive in.
Nina Schwark: As fractional integrators, we often get brought into companies to help them with EOS® adoption across the team. So once the leadership team is on board and running on EOS®, we often get asked, how do we get the rest of the company on board EOS®? And the different teams using the tools and the structure, and getting the benefit.
And a natural starting point that we typically bring in is the State of the Company presentation. So that’s what I want to talk about today. The State of the Company presentation is an all-hands, company-wide presentation that happens every quarter, right after we get out of quarterly planning. And there’s a really straightforward agenda.
The goal of the presentation is to get everyone in the company on the same page about where we’re going. It really helps create clarity and trust with the team, and it aligns us all in the same direction. The agenda we follow answers three essential questions as a leadership team to the entire company.
We answer where we’ve been as a company. So a view of the past quarter, recent wins, challenges, and lessons learned. Then we look at where we are now. Where are we today? What is the financial health of the company? What’s working? We look at our core values, we review the vision, and then we talk about where we’re going as a company.
So we look at the next quarter, the strategic goals we’ve set, and our priorities. We also share how the team can get involved. The purpose of the State of the Company presentation is really about getting everyone aligned around the language we’re using and where we’re going.
A few additional tips when preparing for the State of the Company presentation are to balance challenges and wins. Really share with the team and get vulnerable about where you are as a business. What’s working really well, but also what’s not working. Keep the presentation simple and consistent. Use the same format so the team can get used to how you’re presenting every quarter. And get the whole leadership team involved.
I always say this message shouldn’t just come from your Visionary or your Integrator. It really helps to get a sales update from your sales team, a finance update from finance, and so on. So that’s my tip on using the State of the Company presentation to get buy-in from your team.
