Ryan Castle: You’re listening to the latest Power Tips, and I’m your host, Ryan Castle. Today’s tip comes from Ron Higgs, executive coach and fractional EOS® Integrator at Boost Management Solutions. Ron’s Power Tip is on visionary self-awareness and thinking out loud. Let’s dive in.
Ron Higgs: As an executive coach working with EOS® organizations, one recurring challenge I see is that even the brightest visionaries can unintentionally confuse or frustrate their teams. I chose this topic because time and again, leaders I coach struggle to turn big vision into traction. The root issue is almost always communication style, not a lack of ideas.
Visionaries are the energetic engines behind innovation and growth. They naturally seek new connections, imagine fresh possibilities, and like to think out loud. They work through complex challenges in real time. But the very strengths that make visionaries magnetic, rapidly voicing ideas and jumping into creative problem solving, can sometimes overwhelm their teams.
My number one coaching tip for visionaries is to practice self-awareness by clarifying your intent out loud. Before you launch into your next thought, simply say, “I’m brainstorming,” or “we need to make a decision.” Teams crave clarity. That brief cue reduces uncertainty, builds trust, and helps people execute with more confidence.
It’s also critical to partner closely with your integrator. Empower them to step in and challenge you when your intent isn’t clear. Ask them to pose simple clarifying questions like, “Are we brainstorming?” “Should we take action on this?” or “Are you just sharing an idea?” This dynamic keeps everyone honest, models healthy dialogue, and reinforces accountability across the team.
In my experience, this two-way approach leads to major improvements in accountability and engagement, without dampening creativity or slowing progress. I’ve seen it transform daily interactions, Level 10 meetings, and everything in between. If you want to multiply your impact as a visionary, start with this self-awareness habit. Let your integrator back you up and watch your vision gain real traction.
